How it works

This answers two different questions about the same span, and the two answers do not convert into each other.

The first is the total day count: every day between the two dates, leap days included. It is the number the round milestones are built on.

The second is "years, months and days", counted by the calendar rather than by dividing days by 365. It steps to the most recent monthly anniversary that has passed and counts leftover days from there, so a start date on the 29th, 30th or 31st comes out the way a person would count it.

Milestones are precomputed at 100, 200, 300, 365, 500, 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000 days. The 1,000-day mark is the one most often celebrated in Vietnam, and it lands at about two years and eight and a half months — noticeably sooner than most people expect.

Milestones already passed are hidden; only the ones ahead are listed with the days remaining. The page exists to set a reminder, not to look back.

One small thing people argue about: is the start date day zero or day one? This measures the distance between two dates, so the first day is day zero and the hundredth day falls 100 days later. If you count the first day as day one, every milestone here shifts by one.

Formula

total days = days between the two dates • calendar span = whole years and months elapsed + days since the most recent monthly anniversary

The two do not convert: 1,000 days is not a round "2 years 9 months", because months differ in length and a leap year adds a day.

Worked example

From 14 February 2024 to 31 August 2026:

By the calendar
2 years 6 months 17 days
Total days
929 days
1,000-day mark
10 November 2026 — 71 days away
1,500-day mark
24 March 2028

This span contains 29 February 2024, so the total is one day higher than the same span in a non-leap year. It is the usual reason two day counters disagree by exactly one.

Frequently asked questions

How long is 1,000 days?

About two years and eight and a half months. People often assume nearly three years and miss the date, which is why the exact day is shown here for a calendar reminder.

Is the start date day zero or day one?

Day zero — this measures the distance between two dates. If you prefer to count the first day as day one, every milestone arrives a day earlier than shown.

Why is "2 years 6 months" not 912 days?

Because months run 28 to 31 days and years can be leap years. Calendar counting and day counting are two different measurements with no fixed conversion between them.

What if the start date is the 31st?

The monthly anniversary falls on the last day of any shorter month. That matches how people count naturally, unlike field subtraction with a fixed 30-day borrow, which can produce a negative day count.

Are leap days included?

Yes. The total is counted directly, so every 29 February in the range is included. That is usually why this figure differs by a day from another tool.

Where does the countdown come from?

It takes the nearest milestone not yet reached and counts the days to it. Passed milestones are hidden because the page is for planning rather than review.

Can I use it for a wedding date?

Yes. It is a plain count between two dates, so any anniversary works — a wedding, the day you met, the day you moved in together.
